Released in 2000 and used only three times is this great casting of a 1961 International Scout 80.  When I look at these models and see the detail and craftsmanship that has gone in to their creation I wonder why Mattel no longer use them.

Its initial release was coded YYM38242 as part of the U.S Postal Service Vehicles Collection.  This was the 5th and final vehicle in that collection which was released with the full authorisation of the USPS and celebrated 5 major milestones in its history.

The next outing for the casting was coded YYM35056 and was part of the Evolution of 4×4’s collection; a six part collection featuring 4×4 vehicles from a 1945 Jeep CJ2A till the 1969 Chevrolet K/5 Blazer

The third and final time this casting was used it was coded YYM38054 and was part of the 6 vehicle ”Great Outdoors Collection”, the big difference other than colouring and decoration this time was that it also featured a canoe on the roof which the previous two outings did not have.

These are all great models and contain so much detail; one can only hope the tooling still exists somewhere in the vaults of Mattel and may one day be used again.
