Matchbox 5 Pack : 2021 #01 – Coffee Cruisers
The first 5 pack of 2021 is a great collection of some nice licensed vehicles based on what you might find at a ”cars & coffee” gathering. The first car in the collection is the MB363 : 1962 VW Beetle; this is a much loved casting by many and looks great in the pale blue even though the colour is not unique to this set having appeared in a very similar colour back in a 2007 10 Pack.
The 2nd car in this pack is the MB761 : 1972 Lotus Europa Special, again this is not necessarily a unique colour as the casting was released in yellow in the 2010 basic range and also a 10 pack, but this issue has the racing number 6 from other Europa releases as a small nod to the past.
The third vehicle in the set is the first truly unique casting, being a newer casting of the MB1087 : 1933 Plymouth Sedan, this casting only saw the light of day in 2018 and to date (May 2021) has only had 4 variations including this one.

The fourth car is the MB1130 : 1947 Chevy AD 3100, another relatively new casting, this being only its 5th outing. The colour although unique is similar to the previous ”National Parks” release but is different enough that you could call it a totally new colour and the ”Coffee Cruisers” logo on the side is a really nice touch.
The last car in the set is the MB987 : Dodge Monaco Police vehicle in jet black and with the Matchbox 987 State Police logo it certainly looks the part. Maybe its just me but the fact that the car is labelled for the 5th Precinct is a subtle nod to the fact its in a 5 pack or am I reading too much into that.
So what do you think? I think this is a great little set and as they are all licensed models well worth adding to the collection.
