2022 has begun…

Christmas is almost here and the 2022 models have started to hit the shelves around the world!

As most of us are preparing for the festivities ahead the lucky few collectors and lovers of Matchbox are already finding Batch A of the 2022 basic range on the shelves of their local stores and what a great start to the new year it will be when you find them.

First there is the fantastic MB1242 : 2020 Audi TT RS in a bright red, a gorgeous looking model to take up the #49 position in this years field of 100 vehicles. The interesting thing to note here is not the model but the packaging, this year it is listed as a 2019 Audi on the package whereas its debut in last years (2020) basic range it was listed as a 2020 Audi

Next up is the MB1167 Mini Cooper Countryman in blue. Position as #02 in the range its a nice model that we have seen in various releases since it debuted in 2019. Sadly as good as the design is it has lost its appeal since the blacked out windows were introduced so hopefully Mattel will see sense and reinstate clear or smoke windows to make this one more appealing in the future.

At #14 is the next incarnation of the MB1218 : 2019 VW Beetle Convertible this time in bright orange, followed by the MB1210 : 2020 Jeep Gladiator in a bright green at #07

Interestingly the care for the Jeep Gladiator lists the mode as #07 but of 102 models, not the 100 that is listed on other cards and 102 would certainly be a strange total of models for the basic range if it were true as the standard for the last few years has been 100 models.

At #17 of the 100 or is it 102 models for this year is the MB in stark white and for me this must be the most realistic yet. This is already a great casting but by far the most common colour choice for a work vehicle is white and that makes this the most realistic release yet.
