MB1211 : 2018 Bugatti Divo
|Matchbox Catalog Entry:
Who doesn’t love a super car? I would wager that if you like cars you love a super car, there is something about the allure and for most people the un-attainability of a super car that makes them just that little bit sexy.
The 2018 Bugatti Divo from Matchbox holds that same allure and appeal as the real thing, the team of designers at Mattel have managed to capture the look really well which is not always so simple as when you shrink a car down from its fall size you have to make adjustments to the measurements to retain the lines and look of a model.
The Bugatti Divo first entered he Matchbox line up last year (2020) in the basic range at #46, it was released in a very realistic colour scheme of Dark grey & blue, this year it appears at #39 and in a somewhat disappointing outcome is released in black which is not that much different from the original release. Now to be fair to Mattel this may not be their faullt, when signing agreements with the licensing of another companies design and intellectual property such as that required to develop the Bugatti Divo in small scale sometimes they have forced to agree to limitation such as colour choice as the company (Bugatti) wouldnt want to see their design in say a fluorescent pink colour; so the similar colour may be a requirement of such an agreement.
Moving on from colour choice the rest of the design is superb, the rear tampo design is done in such a way to highlight the tail light and badging and the wheel choice of the modern 5 spoke sets this as the sporty icon that it is. The interior piece is used to not only provide the seats and interior detail but is used to place the blue highlights around the front and side of the car to great effect. Of course this is done as mostly a cost exercise but again provides evidence at just how talented the Mattel designers are working within such constraints.
