MB715 : Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA

The first car in the 2021 City Sedans 5 pack is quite a strange one, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA was first released in 2007 to much applause and fanfare among the collectors of the day;in fact it was used that same year as one of the Gathering exclusive models. The love for this model didnt last long though as it soon became known that one of the clauses in the licensing agreement that Mattel had struck with the Alfa Romeo company was that it could only be released in either red or white; the original colour choices of the real car.

This of course meant that Mattel was limited in what it could do with this casting and thus it only saw a few outings over the years in either red or white with little to no differences between each version.  That is of course until now, and thats what makes this release a bit strange; for the first time since its initial release it is now being released in a colour other than red or white, the new 5 pack version is Silver/Grey.

So why now?  That is just one of the questions; Why now can Mattel use a different colour?  Has the clause expired? Have Mattel re-negotiated the agreement?  Will we see the casting more now in different colours?  I guess only time will tell what the future will bring for this great casting.
