MB873 : International Armored Car
Disappointing, that is the word you would use to describe this release. I really cant think of a better word to use, if I was one of the talented designers at Mattel I would find it so disheartening to see my hard work reduced to this.
The design is great, the look is fantastic and for the kids the play value and ability to drive the imagination is all right there, sadly though once again the accountants have been allowed to interfere with the product which never ever ends well for the product, the company, the brand and somewhat ironically the bottom line and profitabliity.

Mattel can still claim this as a diecast car due to the base being cast metal but the fact that the body is a wholly plastic piece means it just wont feel right in your hand and overall makes it look like a cheap christmas cracker toy and decision like this will lead to the downfall of the brand.
Accountants should be left to do there thing but they should never be allowed to influence design decisions; of course we all know why Mattel do this and that is to keep the product profitable whilst still selling it in the USA at a price point of US$1 ;a price that was set over 30 years ago.
Its time to raise the price for the yanks, like it has been for the rest of the world and allow the brand to thrive once more!
