Y16-5 : 1929 Scammell 100 Ton Low Loader & Train

Released back in 1989 this particular model must rank up there as one of the best. Unlike other Matchbox models this one has to date (April 2021) never been reproduced and for that reason there are no known variations of the model.  It would also rank up there as one of the larger models made for such a small scale; listed as 1/64 it really stands out as a large vehicle, specially when you see the Train on the back.

The train is a G.E.R Class E4 2-4-0 locomotive and with its fine detail this model really appeals to the steam train model collector and with only 33,296 models made for worldwide release it is certainly one to search out.  For those that collect large trucks then they will not be disappointed either, the Scammell 100 Ton Low Loader is quite a unique model and looks fantastic in the bright blue and red with the Pickfords name on it.

Originally selling for £29.99 the model itself sold out very quickly, and being purchased by collectors I would think almost all of them are out there in mint condition and this is borne out by the fact that if you are seeking one for your own collection now, you can pick one up on the 2nd hand market for roughly the same price paid 30 years ago; making them extremely good value at the moment.
