Another new 5 Pack for 2021 or is it? The idea of having a 5 pack base around EV and Hybrid vehicles is a good one, it is certainly a pack that children will relate to as it will be filled with modern vehicles they can see on the roads around them.  But once again it seems to be an own goal by Mattel, a great idea but with very poor delivery.

Matchbox MB1025 : Toyota Prius Taxi (2017 Basic Range & 2021 5 Pack)

The set consists of the MB1025 : Toyota Prius Taxi a vehicle that first saw the light of day in 2017 in the exact same design, an oversight maybe? lets move on and see; the 2nd vehicle in the set is the MB1039 : 2015 BMW i3 in a pearly white colour, again a nice car but we have already seen this when it was first released in 2018.  I am starting to see a pattern but maybe thats just me.

The 3rd vehicle is another Beemer the MB1093 : 2016 BMW i8 and once more this black variant was first released in 2018 so another re-issue. Surprisingly the 4th vehicle is not a re-issue, well sort of.  The MB1091 : International eStar is a re-release of the initial 2018 basic range release with the exception that the base is now black and it is the modified casting from the first release; so technically a new vehicle.

The last car in the pack is a re-release of the 2018 MB1079 : 2018 Nissan Leaf in a pearl white.  So overall 4 re-releases and a 1 new vehicle to me adds up to a lost opportunity.  For all Mattels advertising and time in the headlines of late about how they will be moving their company forward in a very green manner this seems like a huge missed opportunity for them.
