DY-10 : 1950 Mercedes Benz Omnibus Type D-3500
After all the plastic of the last few days I thought it would be a nice change to look at something a little more solid and with a little more diecast in it. Back in 1989 when Matchbox was owned by Universal Toys they produced some really nice larger scale diecast models and this D-3500 Mercedes Omnibus is a prime example.
Made almost entirely of metal means it would be unlikely to get a release today and maybe even back then it was all to much as the casting was only ever used once as the model we see here today.
|Model||Omnibus Type D-3500|
|Matchbox Catalog Entry:||DY-10|
Painted in a subtle cream colour with dark blue highlights really shows off the detail of the model and captures the spirit of bus travel in the 1950s. Each model came in a beautifully designed box with some fantastic artwork of the model on the packaging and with a certificate as well. After 30+ years its most likely among the tooling that has been lost or damaged so probably not likely we will ever see something so heavy and so well made again, even if Mattel did want to make something from actual metal.
