MB778 : Heritage Ice Cream Truck

Matchbox MB778 : Heritage Ice Cream Truck (2021 Basic Range)

Way back in 2009 this casting was first released, and even then it drew some criticism from the collecting community; the casting was initial made with a metal base and metal cab with plastic body, this continued with each release until it disappeared from the range after the 2013 basic range release.

When the casting returned in 2019 it had been cost reduced to now only have a metal base and the cab and plastic body was now one piece.  As a casting design I think the Matchbox design team have done a great job but once again are let down by the bean counters who have turned this casting into something resembling a Christmas cracker toy more than a diecast toy as it should be.

For me when the body becomes a full plastic mold, its time to say goodbye to the casting completely before too much damage is done to the great name of Matchbox
