MB821 : Ford Taurus Police Interceptor

Matchbox MB821 : Ford Taurus Police Interceptor (2021 Basic Range)

This is the 3rd model in the 2021 basic range that is a recolour of a previously released vehicle and as such it makes you question the thinking of Mattel. Now its not the first time this has happened, over the years there are many times where a model is recoloured during the model year and when that happens up until now the recolour is released into the yearly mix as the same position in the basic range, but seemingly not this year (2021).

Now the question to be answered is why? are they recolours? are they replacement models for a casting that wasnt ready in time? I guess only Mattel know and so far they are not saying.

This casting in particular is a little strange to me in its design choice, sure we all know there are unmarked Police vehicles in just about every police force around the world, but they usually arent as obvious as this one with its clear roof lights and that for me makes it a strange choice not to have any markings at all; again only Mattel will know why this choice was made but it does seem a little odd.
